You plug in the earphones in the type C port, listen to your music, watch videos or whatever you do, and then set the Pixel aside while you do something else. Then you come back, turn the phone on to continue your activity with the earphones, but the Pixel forgets they're plugged in and proceeds to blast your audio through its own speakers. This forces you to unplug/replug in the earphones. Every single time.
