wth is going on with my nexus - charging problems

theres something wrong with my nexus right now. i cant tell if it is charging or not.. the battery icon the notif bar shows that its charging but sometimes t he lockscreen wont notice it as charging. and even though it shows that its charging my battery is still dropping im not even pushing it either its at zero brightness and im barely using the screen.. someone please help

Check under settings> battery and see if it says "Not charging"

a couple minutes later it says not charging.. but the top battery icon is showing that its charging and it is plugged in.

There might be a problem with the usb port. If it persists, and you can replicate it, i would take it into verizon for a replacement unit.

If you dont want to do that, you might want to try a factory reset but that will erase everything on your phone and the sd-card memory, and i dunno how likely it is to help but it might be worth a shot.

The battery icon in the status bar always shows the lightening bolt when the phone is plugged in. "Even if it's fully charged!"

The first thing I would do is pull the battery (while the phone is still on). Leave it out for a minute or so, put it back in and see if goes back to normal. Sometimes these mini computers need a hard reboot.

I've had the same issue and couldn't get it to go away. Had to swap phones.

Same here. Even on replacements and others I've seen, which presumably means the icon is always like that if charging.

i guess my charging cord was faulty bc i got a new one and the problem went away it seemed like the phone knew it was plugged in but wasnt charging

The lightning? Weird. It did it with the customer service model as well so I presumed the icon just indicates it's plugged in.

Its how ICS is set up I think. The Xoom shows the same thing when it is charging too.

I had this problem with my GN and it ended up being the ac adapter for the usb cord went bad.

I get it no matter what USB cord and plug I use. I also get it with the car charger. It is like that on both the Xoom and Nexus.

Is it me or is the GNex very sensitive to charging cords? It really is picky and if I don't use my factory cord, there is always a chance that it won't charge.

The only time I have had a problem with the charging is when I used a rapid charger car charger on it.

Mine suddenly stopped charging when I'm using the phone while plugged in. It still seems to charge when idle.

That isn't anything new for some phones. I think that is by design.

The only charging problem I have had is sometimes the phone just does not start charging when plugged in. A reboot fixes it though.

I've had problems with mine charging, it wouldn't charge with the cord that came with it so Verizon replaced it with one of their generic charging cords. It doesn't seem to always want to charge with that one either, it always charges with a couple of my old BB cords.

They have finally come out with a stock charger ETC-CPK008GSTA these are nice and will work with either the stock or extended battery. Amazon has them for $33

I am having the same issue. After 3 phones and hours of retelling my situation to Verizon technical support, I finally got the answer.

The phone will charge when it is off with any universal charger.....however.....in order for the phone to charge while it is on, you need the specific charger made for that phone. Ive never had this issue before (and ive had many phones) but its true! Hope this helps

Don't think this is correct. I charge mine on different chargers (home and car) and it's always on. Never had problem with it charging.

I think I do notice that it charges much faster with the oem samsung charger.

I had the same problem with my e4gt. 1st time I had to swap chords 2nd time I turned off the GPS and it charged in nothing flat.
