Unless you want a useless phone with looks designed by kids and an os which has not been tested by google, stay with KitKat.. You'll not miss anything.. Peace of mind...
Does Kit Kat handle SD card access the same as Lollipop?

I suppose that if everyone has good things to say about 5.1, I might consider it, since I usually prefer to keep my system up to date. However, to be honest, I've heard nothing so far about Lollipop that gives me any incentive to leave KitKat 4.4.4.
If you're going to wait until "everyone" says it's great, you'll never do it. There are people who thoroughly enjoy hating something new or different.

I agree with what you've said. I was using "everyone" loosely, not literally. But the many reports of problems with Lollipop, including from people who have in the past seemed sensible and not knee-jerk nay-sayers, make me reluctant to risk moving to Lollipop at this time. KitKat is working well for me, and Lollipop doesn't seem to offer much that I need.

While I've had a great experience with Lollipop so far (on a G3, Note 3, and Note 4) the only thing I like better about than Kit Kat is the SD support. ...and I don't spend a lot of time trying to write to my SD cards anyways.

Can you say more about how the SD support differs in Lollipop?

In Lollipop you can give a 3rd party app permission to write to the SD card. IME, the first time you try a little tutorial pops up on how to accomplish this.

I have gone back to KitKat after lollipop made my nexus 7 2013 unstable and very very slow. Hope they can fix it in 5.1, was surprised how much faster KitKat seems when I went back to it.

Thanks for this info. It's the first thing I have heard about Lollipop that sounds attractive. It doesn't outweigh all the negatives many people have experienced, but it tells me that if 5.1 or some later version finally gets rid of most of the problems, there may be a good reason to update.

To answer your question, I am staying with KitKat 4.4.4, there are far too many bugs to apps that I use, and more importantly wi-fi issues that people are experiencing since upgrading, so it's a big fat NO to Lollipop from me.

The only issue for those like me that are staying with KitKat is that they won't be able to use the What's New app for updates to their Sony apps, I say this as this will hold all the updates for Sony apps on Lollipop and beyond.

It will be interesting if the update centre will show new updates for apps now that Lollipop has surfaced, I would like to think that the current Update Centre on Sony smartphones will continue to work until you upgrade, it should, especially if you decide to go for Lollipop, but I am thinking more about app updates on it.

Rar for Android now has an option to write to a home folder in SD card, I can't remember the string unfortunately. So does this mean that if the app is written to do this it over-rides the OS command?

I upgraded a month ago. Couldn't answer the phone when somebody called.
Took it to Best Buy they backed up the phone and did a factory reset and everything is great.

If you listen to everything on the internet you will probably bury your head in the sand.
All you hear is the bad, not any of the good.
Guess when people have one problem it runs like wildfire scaring everybody else.
The internet is good. But as good as it is. Its bad.
There are lots of people who have downloaded lollipop and not had a problem.

Kinda hard for me to go threw life and not think there will be bumps in the road.
Got to take the Bad with the good and go on.

If it ain't broke don't fix it is my motto, I don't have the time to start putting the phone to factory settings and fixing resulting issues when I don't have to.

I took the update April 17th - BIG MISTAKE!!! Factory Reset does not help! I was told by Samsung to wait for the next update for a fix.
If you are on KitKat 4.4.4 NK1,
Stay there for awhile till they get Lollipop to work correctly!
My Note 3 ran Great on 4.4.4 !
So far I don't see much to like on Lollipop and I hate the teal and white screens!

True to an extent, but there are just as many with valid complaints about performance issues or decreased battery life even after a factory reset. Not to mention valid points about poorly implemented changes to system operation in Lollipop such as the new overly complex mute system, the new notification system, or the new predictive battery graph, all of which appear to try to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place. Then there are the UI changes using garish colors with blinding white backgrounds (where's a dark theme?). Personally, I have no regrets staying on KitKat and not dealing with any of that.

I now wish I had stayed with KitKat. (on my GS5s) I would have, but that pesky notification system just doesn't want to take "NO" for an answer!

The standard email app restricts my ability to customize the "user" field when setting up a POP3 account. It asks for the "email address," and assumes the "user ID" is just that part of the email address prior to the "@" sign. In my case the entire email address is the user ID, but the mail app won't allow me to change it. Thus, it can never collect or retrieve mail. It did allow me to set up accounts that way on Kit Kat.

I know it's too late now, but if your phone is similar to mine you'll find under personalisation there's an option to choose which apps send notifications, so unticking which ever app is used for system updates will remove the notification that you mentioned, this worked for me thankfully.

Thanks anyway, but as I've just discovered, it was a false alarm. It was just my touching skills that needed a touch up! I can configure it to work OK, now.

Still taking a bit of getting used to with Lolipop, though.

The phone learns as you use it.
And if you get Shut App you will see increased battery life faster.

I will stay with KK. I force close the Lollipop update notification daily. I am not worried about doing a factory reset to get my phone working right with LP. For me the reason to stay with KK is that too many unneeded changes were made to LP that in my opinion are just too annoying. For me the new notification system is a big fail. As well as the music controls on the lock screen. Until these two (huge issues to me) are fixed as well as many other annoyances with LP I will be staying with KK. And if I need to buy a new phone in the meantime I will just have to look at something other than Android. To me LP is a huge step backwards.
