Do not disturb in android 9 pie

[Android Central Question]

Hi, so basically, since i've upgraded to android 9 pie my DND settings have kind of changed. in the previous version i used to have a daytime rule where phone calls vibrated and where the screen woke for notifications and a sleep rule where calls were silent and the screen didn't wake.

Now however, calls vibrate for both rules notifications wake the screen as well. How can i sort this out?

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Sound>Do Not Disturb. Choose Notifications, then tap the gear icon next to Custom. Make sure "Don't turn on screen" is checked on. Is that what you're looking for?

Hi, no not quite I'm trying to change what the DND settings do depending on which rule is currently active

Oh, I see -- so the daytime rule was when you turned on DND during the day? I thought you meant it was just how you set things up as default during the day.

What if you just do a quick mute during the day by pressing Power and Vol Up at the same time? This should set it to Vibrate Mode, and you can still separately set it to turn on the screen when a notification arrives.
