What's the difference between Simple and Increment?

Does anyone have any idea what the difference is between the "simple" and "increment" watch faces?
I noticed the preview of "increment" has a tiny 3 in a dot in the upper right but I have never seen it on the watch face or have any idea what it represents.

I have google searched my **** off and no luck finding an answer.

Any clues?

I have played with this a bit... Originally I just thought it would show the number of notifications you had... I was wrong.

After playing with simple and increment, I am with you... Not really sure what the difference is .

I must say tho, I don't really like how a notification takes over the background when on those watch faces tho.

Ha! Just figured it out.
I just received a google+ notification and an email at the same time. The watch has a little 2 in the dot on the top right. I changed to "simple" and the dot went away. I changed back to "increment" and it reappeared. As soon as I swiped up the notification the 2 vanished.
So it is a counter of how many notifications you have received since you last looked at them. That's pretty handy.

And now my OCD can relax. Mystery solved.
