Buy used ebay phone for trade in

You can get $550 for trading in used s10 phones for the new s21. I can't think of why this wouldn't work but what if you were to buy a good condition used phone on ebay and use it as a trade in? As long as the IMEI is clean all should be good right?

It's probably like for like - trade a 128GB phone for a 128GB phone, a 256GB phone for a 256GB phone, etc. And, assuming that Samsung doesn't pull its usual shenanigans (like saying that the trade-in doesn't qualify because <some made-up excuse>), you might be okay with a 128GB phone (they're about $400 on eBay in good condition). A 512GB S10 is $450 or so, so it's not that great.

Is it all right? I'm sure Samsung knows that some people do that.
