Why isn't my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 getting charged?

my samsung galaxy tab 2 is not getting charged

the tab was not used for a long time.so i tried charging it.i am just getting a red empty battery symbol that blinks once every second.how should i charge the tab now?

If the battery has been fully discharged, it may be difficult or impossible to get it to accept a fresh charge. Try leaving it on charge for a long time, perhaps a day.
