how can I fix authentication error on galaxy tab 3?

Hello everyone. My sister got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 SM-T310 last Christmas and it worked all year. Yesterday she used Google chrome only to get this response:

YOU ARE OFFLINE. WIFI AND MOBILE DATA ARE TURNED OFF.
ERROR CODE: ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED( this was accompanied by an 8-bit image of a dinosaur)

I checked the wi-fi and it showed that it was saved and secured. this morning i checked the wi-fi and it said Authentication error occurred. I tried all the steps on the booklet and tried other troubleshooting tips from other people who had the same trouble as i did, but nothing worked. my computer and modem are fine, but now i am out of ideas. help please?

Welcome to Android Central! Can any app on the Tab 3 access the web using your home wi-fi network? How about other public wi-fi networks?
