My Phone Battery HTC M8 will only boot when on charge

Happened overnight, tried to turn on and only vibrates and shows the first HTC Android screen then turns off, phone fully charged but when you plug in it shows empty but then 2 seconds later shows 99%, I can boot the phone to work if I catch it when it shows 99% but not when showing empty, Alternate flashes. Suspect this is to do with the battery as I cannot find help for it anywhere.. If I unplug the phone once it has booted it will shut down no power down just immediately off. Help???? EE want me to take it in but then means 5 weeks with a text and call only phone..
