FB Messenger update changing photo EXIF data to today's date?

Today's FB Messenger update changed the EXIF date data of all the photos in the Messenger folder in my phone's Gallery to today's date.

I noticed it when I was attaching a photo to a Messenger message. The attachment "filmstrip" began with old photos, like from two years ago. I switched to a gallery view and it looked like the date sort had changed...photos are now sorted randomly. My newest photos are buried somewhere in that gallery.

I checked the timestamp of a few photos, and sure enough, all of them have been changed to today's date, making sorting irrelevant, and finding recent photos impossible. VERY ANNOYING.

Anyone else see this? I'm using a Moto G 2014.

What's been changed, the timestamp (modified date)? That would be correct. It was modified (copied to another place) today.

The EXIF data itself? That shouldn't be touched, except by the camera when the picture is taken, or by you with an EXIF editor. (If Facebook is changing EXIF dates, they're making a GRAVE error.)
