How do i connect my s6 to my non smart tv wo wifi? Please help

Ok, I have an S6 and I want to hook my phone up to my TV to stream video and what not. I recently bought a Chromecast and I did not have a Wi-Fi connection at my house. I have unlimited Wi-Fi through my cell phone provider but they disabled tethering and all that which makes it very annoying! I ended up taking the Chromecast back and asking attack at the store what I could use instead because I heard a MHL adapter will work! They told me that they have had problems with the Samsung phones connecting two TVs so they sold me a $60 MHL adapter kit for Samsung phones! I then opened it and tried to connect it to my TV which is not a smart TV and it does not work at all! Please what can I do!?

Welcome to the forums. Does the TV have a USB port? I'm curious if a USB data cable will work?
