why is my screen flickering?

I have a Samsung galaxy s5 just over a year old and I have several problems with it since day 1 but it's recently started flickering and changing brightness, the best help so far is putting it on auto brightness highest.. everyone saying take it back to samsung but I didn't finish paying the plan so won't have warranty. What is causing this? It came on suddenly not after a drop or anything.

Screen might be going bad, motherboard, or maybe a loose screen connector. Did you ever drop the phone? Have you tried starting the phone in Safe Mode to see if an app is causing the issue?

By the way... while the screen is still working, it would be wise to back up your data.
