Android facebook app - trends and search suggestions have disappeared?

Hi,
So I don't know a lot about software or app design, but I am my wit's end. For months now, my Facebook search hasn't been working correctly, only when I'm logged into the Facebook Android app.
I used to be able to search in the search bar, and trends and related people would show up in the results below and I could click on the link and be taken directly to their profile. Now when I search, it only comes up with word suggeations, I.e. "John Smith" folowed by "John Smith posts" "John smith friends" "John smith photos". I then have to click on John Smith, and I am taken to the results page. I then have to select the right John Smith out of all the John Smiths that appear before I can get to a profile.
I didnt worry too much about it - thought it would be resolved in update, or maybe it was connection but after nearly three months I am over it. Please help me! Could be an account seeing? I've uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, deactivated my account, I've tried everything I can think of!
