why do I have to double tap everything on my ZTE android phone

suddenly my Android phone requires I double tap everything I select

Welcome to the forums. Have you enabled TalkBack or any similar feature? Just in case, go to the accessibility settings and make sure everything is switched off. Maybe you'll need to swipe using two fingers, instead of one, to navigate through the menus.
