Why is transferring files from PC to Android tablet ( Samsung galaxy) so slow? Ama

I am on Windows 7 and I want to transfer 7 GB of files from my PC to the internal memory of my Galaxy tablet via USB cable. I clocked the amount of data copied( copy-and-paste) over one day: at that rate it would take 15 days, 24/7, to copy the whole thing. Why is it so slow? Is there a way to speed up the transfer?
