Why is my data going so fast on my galexy s5

I've have this phone for a day and it has only one app downloaded and I've used a whole gig and it's been used extremely little I've tried everything I possibly could please help

When you first get a new phone, they devour mountains of data updating and syncing etc. I usually jump on the phone right from the start and restrict all online stuff! First to go off is synch. Then play store auto updates. I go through all my apps, turn off background data on everything. No exceptions!
Then I make most things WiFi only....
You have to be ruthless.
Best to find some WiFi and sit down with a coffee and update stuff you actually want...
You can limit synch of apps like fb, emails etc... I manually do mine, nothing is allowed to auto synch.
