Why is screen locked on Android car stereo?

Installed an Android swm 8802 car stereo (double din head unit) in my 2003 F150, and as soon as it boots up, a locked padlock icon and the message 'App Permission' (locked app permission) shows at the top of the screen, and then finishes loading to the home screen, but the padlock icon stays in the top left and the whole touch screen is locked. The stereo itself works fine with the remote, but the remote functions are limited, no settings access, just four basic 'modes'. I have tried all sorts of combinations with the four buttons on the face (back, home, recent, and volume/power) and the reset button and had no luck; every boot up the screen is still locked.
