how does this updating take place?

[Android Central Question]

I have not downloaded any apps for over a month but...
I turned on google play protect for the first time ever today and it tells me that some apps were scannned 5 days ago! does this mean that 5 days ,Google connected to my phone without my knowledge (and did some scanning) ?

Or does it mean that Google has some security app on my phone that periodically scans all my other apps? ( if so, where is this app located on my phone? )

please don't answer this question with another question.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you certain Google Play Protect was off this whole time? Remember, there are two components of Play Protect: (1) Scan Device for Security Threats, and (2) Improve Harmful App Detection. Maybe the Scan Device option was already on, but the Harmful App Detection wasn't.
