Deleting photos from messenger

How do I delete photos that have been sent to me in messenger (needing to delete via an android tablet)...Tried holding finger down on photo, didn’t work.

Actually holding finger down on photo should have worked. Do you think it's not working because you get the emoji line-up? Well at the bottom of the screen it should say Save Image, which we know isn't what you want to do, then Share to Facebook, Copy and finally More. If you click that more tab you can forward and delete.
