What is the real difference between the different types of updates available on Android phones?

I go under Settings -> System Updates. i see:

• Update Android
• Update Firmware
• Update Profile
• Update PRL

What is each one doing and how are they used?

I am new to the Android phone world (from Windows mobile)... I have an Echo.

Update Android would be for OS updates to Android. This will push OTA to you from your manufacturer from your Carrier.

Update firmware would - I assume update any chip firmware if it's necessary.

Update Profile - Many devices have a Profile setting where you can set a work and play profile and have different screens on your phone depending on the profile you choose - This would update the Profile.

Pudate PRL - The PRL is the Primary Roaming List. It's updates by the carrier so that you phone has the latest tower roaming info - you can check this every month or so with no ill effects.
