Is my phone hacked?

Hello everyone. So recently, I think I got a virus on my phone. I opened up a text message (by accident) from some number with a picture attachment, even though the picture attachment said i had to manually download it, Auto-retrieve was on, and now I'm paranoid whether someone is spying on me or not. Please help. (Messaging was the app i got the text from)
