sim card only works in safe mode?

so I accidentally dropped my phone (LG G3 Verizon) in some water pulled it out quickly and put it in the rice it loaded up was working. then the sim card stopped working. went to the store got a new sim card still didn't work. then I had the idea to try safemode? And for some reason the sim card works in safemode only? I am not even sure what safemode actually does. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips. I tried searching on the subject and everything about safemode was how to get out of safemode and I can do that easily but the sim card isn't detected. I also tried doing a factory reset and I get the same sim card message

What "sim card message" are you getting?

Who is your carrier?

Safe Mode disables all third-party apps, add-ons, etc. In Safe Mode, you are running the phone as if it were straight out of the box.

my carrier is Verizon. Yeah I'm assuming if I did a factory wipe that I wouldn't have any third party apps?

You didn't say what the "sim card message" is...

When in Safe Mode, can you actually make a phone call? Or, is it just that you are not getting :the message" when in Safe Mode?

oh sorry it's just saying there is no sim card inserted. In safe mode I can make phone calls and can use my mobile data
