What about local media or NAS?

I have movies, music, pictures, etc on a NAS that I can access from my Nexus 7 tablet. Will I be able to "cast" this to the tv and watch my movies from my NAS directly on my TV via the Chromecast?

I am wondering the same thing. It doesn't sound like that functionality is there currently. Wondering if it will be in an update, if at all, or maybe if someone will figure out how to add it through "hacking".

Looks like if you browse to a local file in Chrome, you can use the Google Cast extension to stream from device to Chromecast.

I was able to open all of the media files on both my NAS (Synology) and a Lacie Drive I have formatted as Mac OS Extended (HFS+) and attached to my airport extreme. I just put the directory location of the parent folder into the chrome browser and selected the file I wanted from the directory page that opened up. (Yes, I have a six year old daughter so my movie's are mildly embarrassing to show publicly!) If all of your movies are in one place (this is my iTunes Library) then they will all be there to select to "cast". Now I just need mine to show up!
