Problems with Nexus 7 not notifying email

For some reason my email is not appearing I. The notify tray, or sening a notification sound. For some reason it just stopped, when it used to work without a problem....I've checked the email settings and made sure that the notification was checked off, which it is...also checked in the sound settings to make sure that a sound was checked, and it was too! Is there anywhere else to check that I may have missed? ...thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hit volume button then touch the settings icon on the volume bar. There is notification volume there as well. Not sure about your notifications display

I noticed the notification volume bar is independent of volume it seems. I can turn it up louder than main volume. But if main is mute so is notification

You may also want to check if your background sync is turned off.

Wow.....I don't know how I missed that setting, but you were right......it was the auto sync.....thanks for the help.
