HTC U11 NOT water resistant!

My 2-months old HTC U11 stopped working after 30s of exposure to shallow water, contradicting what you expect from an IP67 phone.
HTC support doesn't want to bare the repair costs, stating that liquid damage is not covered by the warranty.

I strongly suspect that the damage was due to a defect in the water sealing of the SIM slot door, which looked irregular and like if it was missing the internal bezels in one of the sides. Could someone please post a picture of that hole, so I can compare with mine and check if there was indeed a defect?

Anyway, you should think twice before exposing your phone to any moisture, as HTC will not take responsibility despite using IP67 as a selling argument.

My SIM door looks like:

First I am sorry your phone is damaged. Second the rubber seal is on the tray itself. Third no matter the IP rating it is only considered water resistant not water proof. Forth it happens to all companies. Fifth no company takes responsibility for a water damaged phone.

Thanks, I agree with most points.
But on point 2: If the rubber seal is in contact with a rough surface, it will not be effective.
And on point 3: Regardless of what you call water resistant or water proof, the IP specification is objective and not a matter of words. And my phone has failed to comply with those objective specifications.
And on point 5: The warranty statement excludes water damage, "unless directly caused by a defect in manufacturing". That's why it is important to understand if there is a manufacturing defect. Unfortunately the customer support defaults to simply saying liquid damage is not covered, what is not exactly correct.

All that said, I would like to see how a proper SIM compartment door looks like, to understand if mine is really defective.

How about a little more information on the event? How deep was the water? What caused the phone to become submerged?

While I understand why a company can not provide coverage for water damage, it's sad indeed that "30 seconds in shallow water" would ruin the phone.
