First world problems... Galaxy S5 vs LG G2

So currently, I have the Nexus 5 and as I am wont to do, I want a new phone. I'm on T-Mobile and am thinking about trying out their upgrade program. I had tentatively decided to get the Samsung Galaxy 5. Then, somehow, I started looking at the G2. Primarily, I'm looking for a better camera and a better battery and I think both fit the bill. However, the G2 is considerably cheaper and I probably would be able to upgrade to the G3 when it comes out - I'm assuming fall/winter. The S5 is appealing as I know what it is, meaning there hasn't been any official announcement about the G3. I like the TV integration that seems a bit more robust than the G2. That said, the G2, seems awfully close (in terms of tech, specs, camera, batter) to the S5. That doesn't necessarily mean the G3 will kick it out of the water, but maybe. I'm also a little put off by talk of the G3 growing in size. I still prefer a phone at this point. Any thoughts?

Are you keeping the N5? If so, i would just try the G2, and see how you like it. If you can try live ones in the store. This will allow you to test any lag differences, feel, color, etc...

I've owned the G2 for many months, I read the specs on the S5 and it seems similar to the G2 for a higher price. I think it comes down to battery (G2 is better) and personal preference of the user interface.

Great outdoor camera, hundreds of fantastic photos and videos of my kids that are better than expected. Lots of modes and options to tweak the results, burst mode and 60fps for video are my favorites.

The flash is pretty bright but low light photos are about as good as they get for a phone camera, nothing to write home about.

I choose this phone for three reasons, camera, battery life and bright screen for outside use. It does all three fantastic except battery when playing video games.

I have also owned the G2 for a couple months, and I absolutely love it! The battery life is great! The camera is also very good. Images are crisp and really "natural looking". Plays HD videos like a champ! It came with 2 short HD videos pre-loaded onto the memory to show off the display, and they look awesome. I got used to having the up/down/power buttons on the back of the phone after a week of use, so that wasn't a problem. Alot of people say the phone feels really cheap because of the plastic back, but I always have a case on my phone, so I don't really see why that would be an issue... The G2 also has alot of ways to customize (which I like). You can even change the icons for your apps!

Bottom line: Awesome battery life, and awesome camera. All around great phone thus far!

If you're going to upgrade to the G3 then the G2 is a solid choice. It may have come out last year but it is still a very capable flagship with an excellent camera. The S5 hasn't been that appealing for me especially as a former S4 owner. You should definitely try both out at a store though before making your decision. We all have our own opinions but nothing beats hands on experience with each device.

The g2 is great,and my first android experience after years on ios. My only thoughts are that Sammy has so much support from accessories,software and the like....that's nice.
Coming from the nurturing bosom of Apple care and Apple stores,I wonder does Sammy get any of this with the in store presence in best buy? I really like the gear fit also so maybe I have a wandering eye. The g2 is an awesome phone though.

Personally I would say go for the g2. I went from the HTC one to the g2 and even the HTC with its slightly slower snapdragon 600 doesn't lag and can handle anything thrown at it.

I went with the g2 because of its superior camera (over the HTC one) and because of its battery life.

The specs are really close with the s5 and the g2 and for the price I would go for the g2.

On paper the s5 is obviously superior but in real life performance you probably will not notice a difference

Forgot to mention after using the rear volume buttons I don't think I can go back to the conventional side volume rocker. I also constantly double tap my brothers note 3 to try and turn the screen on and think it's another great feature

If I were in your shoes I would definitely go for the g2 and have the option of getting the g3 later. I'm pretty sure the g3 will be far superior on paper as it will later be released and have access to the snapdragon 805 processor and other newer technology

The G2 is an incredible android device, and for me, it's even better with the Kit Kat upgrade as the infrequent but random battery drain bug was eliminated. When you factor in how cheap you can pick one up for, it really boggles the mind. It is by far the best Android device I've owned, and still consider it to be the best handset available for general use. I really only have two minor beefs. Auto brightness can be a bit wonky sometimes (very minor beef) and the camera is very slow to shoot in low light conditions (somewhat bigger beef). I'm sure there is a mod out there for the camera software but it doesn't affect me enough to go digging around and messing with it.

The LG G2 has actually kept me away from Android forums, because well, there's not much to talk about. It just works, and works very well.

The only thing that could make me out down my G2 is the S5 "Download Booster". Sprint's S5 doesn't have it and I've heard the T-Mobile variant is the only USA model that does.

Then again, I also heard the T-Mobile G2 didn't get Google Wallet support with KitKat.

Check them both out in store. You can't go wrong if you choose for yourself.
