Okay I know I am close! but I need a little help...I got the # prompt briefly (i think i followed the directions correctly)... then hit exit and the prompt went back to $...
I know i need to do the recovery first, but haven't had any luck...how to get back to #?
I only get $ doing ./adb shell
See below:

[!] dance forever my only one
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /system /system
# cd /data/local/tmp
# cat su > /system/bin/su
# cat busybox > /system/bin/busybox
# cat Superuser.apk > /data/app/Superuser.apk
# chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
# chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
# exit
$ exit

Thanks!

Okay, so I have done a backup...
Can someone point me to the right thread (My brain is mush- been reading al the threads and now can't find my way back to where I should be)
1-I want to get rid of all the sprint bloatware! (is there a thread of how to do this and which files should not be removed?)
2-should i install a ROM first?
3- Thank you for all the help- the forum is truely kind to newbies and i for one appreciate it!

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

Ok, I'm running into a few problems, probably self-inflicted, but any guidance would be appreciated...

I unzipped the exploit contents into its own directory, and ran adb from there.

I copied the necessary files over to the tmp directory and chmodded to 777, no problems. I let the Gingerbreak app run for about 10 minutes, never got root. So, I attempted to mount the file system, and got an "operation not permitted" error.

Any ideas what I'm missing or leaving out?

TIA

Ok, this thread is way tooo long! :) So, I ended up using Gingersnap to root my phone last night. Ended up having to use an XP computer rather than Windows 7. Thanks for the info.
