[How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and OTA works too!)

I cant find the answer to this question and hopefully this is the correct place to ask it.

I ran through the install, everything appears fine, but how to I get Superuser access after I exit.

I thought I simple do:
Code:
adb shell
su

But I get a Permission Denied message. Is this not the correct way to get su access? do I use busybox to run su?

Ultimately I am trying to be able to set up xionia recovery but cant get back to su access to mount/remount and setup the flash_image.

BTW I have done this 3 times now. Each apparently successful, not sure since I cant get back to the su command prompt.

Thanks alot;

When you issue the "su" command, your phone must be ON and not in a locked state. You will need to expressly allow the prompt that appears after you issue the "su" command. Further use of the "su" command after that will go unhindered :)

THANKS;

To recap the Superuser app creates a notification which the can pick allow/deny for an application requesting su access. The phone needs to be unlocked to show that notification otherwise it times out and denies access.

Such a simple action, Thanks alot for the writeup.

I was unable to push the file gingerbreak " no such file ". I then tried to delete the file which lead to me not having ownership of it, not being able to change ownership of the file, then losing ownership of the containing folder. After scanning with comodo it came up as Exploit.Lunix.Lotoor.p@194302.. Cleaning this file with a antivirus resolved my folder ownership issues.

Admins need to check the file link at the very beginning of this thread. I've done various android roots on multiple devices using files from this forum, this is the first time any have behaved this way and come up as trojans.

I need some help.

C:\OptimusRootZVD>adb shell
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
$ rm -r /data/local/tmp
rm -r /data/local/tmp
$ mkdir /data/local/tmp
mkdir /data/local/tmp
$ ls -l /data/local/tmp
ls -l /data/local/tmp
$ adb push gingerbreak /data/local/tmp/gingerbreak
adb push gingerbreak /data/local/tmp/gingerbreak
adb: permission denied

On step 4, I tried to push the gingerbreak and getting permission denied. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

That's because gingerbreak by definition IS a virus/trojan. It exploits a security vulnerability in Android to give you a root shell. This topic has been discussed many times before. Please search for this information before you falsely claim that I am distributing malware designed to screw up your computer/device.

EDIT: Relevant warning has been added to the guide.

YES IT WORKED! the first time it didn't work, but taking out and reinserting my sd card once I started getting <>sendmsg<> failed? errors seemed to stop them and my dad actually called me right after I mounted and I almost had a heart attack but I restarted and superuser is in my app drawer so everything seems to be great! thanks!

it wont load on "adb push su /data/local/tmp/su" any help?!?

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

can someone step me through the custom recovery pleaseeeeee :)

cat su no such file

I am trying to copy the su to system/bin/su and it keeps telling me no such file or directory
Not sure why becouse superuser.apk and busybox went fine

#cat su > /system/bin/su
su: no such file or directory

I am also wondering if I install a different rom and xionia will it matter if I load SU since it is on most roms already.

I am now working on re doing the whole thing except gingerbreak it taking a long time, not sure how long "a while" is and see no progress.
last line is "vold: 0698 GOT start: 0x000142a8 GOT end: 0x000142e8"

Seems like an awful lot is needed compared to some of the other phones I have rooted. Oh well, at least it works.
