Just recently I have this white dot that is in the top left hand corner of my notification bar. When I pull down to see what it is, there is nothing. Tried rebooting the phone, looking at recent apps that I've installed to see if that's the culprit, and now I give up and come to this forum looking for help. Anyone have any idea what it is?

It typically represents minimized notifications - if there are no notifications, then sounds like either a bug or they're using that minimized notification functionality for something else - but not sure what that would be.

You could try booting into Safe mode - if it's being caused by a 3rd party application that won't show up in Safe mode. Then you can start uninstalling the most recent applications you've used.

This is easier than doing a Factory Reset (although if nothing obvious turns up that may be another step to try).

It went away after I powered off my phone completely, then waited a minute and powered it back up and the white dot is gone. Who knows what it was...

It's usually the result of an application that's keeping itself from being kicked out of memory by the OS; the app keeps a 'notification' running (although it may not actually be providing any kind of useful notification) as a means to stay running.

This is the dot I have been noticing every now and again. It will appear and disappear randomly, anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, I just noticed this and I'd like to know the answer to this one. The device is Honor 9X running EMUI 10 Android 10.

Welcome to Android Central! Is that the right side of the status bar? As mentioned above, that could be an overflow icon telling you that there are additional status bar icons that don't fit. After display notches became a thing, this became more common because the system would have to make sure the center of the status bar was kept clear.

Thank you! Actually, I didn't have many notifications or system icons at the time, And my phone does not even have a notch, Because it has a pop up camera, Anyway, It occupies the left side my status bar, I will add a reference picture of my status bar here too, But right now the dot has disappeared and can not be seen.

That would be an unusual position for an overflow icon, but it's still possible. The next time you see it, swipe down your notification panel and see if there are more notifications there that can fit on the status bar. Then dismiss a few of the notifications and see if the dot disappears.

I'm attaching two photos that illustrate the phenomenon. One is plain, and the other is edited.

The dot does not always appear. And sometimes it flashes.

Welcome to Android Central! That certainly looks like the overflow icon. If you clear out most of your notifications, does that disappear?

Mine is even smaller than this image, like one pixel. It showed up a couple months ago. No difference if I close apps, clear notifications, restart, etc it doesn't go away. Nothing I can find in the pulldown menu
