I'd use SMS backup and restore. Once your messages are saved, take the backup file and transfer it to a computer until your phone is ready to be restored. When you reinstall all your apps, transfer the file back to your phone and use it to get your messages back. Posted via Android Central App

I also thought that the point of the sleep mode was to not have the screen come on at all during those times (but was mistaken when I had it active). But what you're saying is instead of that the phone pretty much is just on a silent mode during those times?

I use hangouts now as well. Though there was nothing wrong with the stock messaging app, I just figured if hangouts has the SMS capabilities why not use it. Posted via Android Central App
