I bought the moto g as a prepaid only device for testing Android builds. I was able to swap it into my account on VZW. Works great. Best phone for the price. Really nice phone. Can't promise this will work for anyone else but I'll take it.

Did you activate it at all on a prepaid line?

Could you post a pic from the My Verizon app or the Verizon website showing the G on a post-paid line? Block out any personal information, of course.

If I do that someone might try it and fail. I wasn't intending to use it as a phone just as an android iPod so to speak. If you're really curious I'll post it when the kids are in bed.

I bypassed the initial activation. Setup the play account. 4 days later signed in to VZW, swapped out a dumb phone with the moto g. It added 10 to my monthly bill. I have the new family share plan. It's 40 each smartphone. Plus the unlimited minutes\sms and data. I then switched the g with my main line. Voilla!

Update: I got homesick for my iPhone so called VZW to switch the lines with moto g with iPhone. They tried but their system wouldn't let them do it. So I had them put a dumb phone back on the line. Here is where it gets interesting : I was then able to go online a few days later and switch the moto g back in to replace the dumb phone on my 2nd line.

I'm on an old Nationwide FamilyShare plan. The Verizon Wireless website accepts the Moto G and let's me configure text and data plans. Minimum data plan available is the 2GB for $30 so I didn't submit the final step.

Cool. I am using a shared plan so it was only adding 10 to that line for me. Nice to see someone else could do it.

Anyone else using the Moto g on postpaid?

For those using it, everything still working good?

Any way to get it working without the data plan?

Something changed on the Verizon site. Now when I try to activate my Moto G on post-paid, it wants me to change the text plans for my other two lines as well. Those lines are both on $10/500 message plans currently. I don't get the option to keep their existing plans.

Apparently I have to call to get a new line on my plan without touching the grandfathered text plans for my current lines. Seems like I'd have to activate an older phone then just do ESN/MEID swaps to get the Moto G on a post-paid line.

I tried to activate the Moto g on a current dumb phone line, no go. Not sure why it works for you, but doesn't work for me.

I bought the Moto G at Best Buy because of the $49 sale. A few minutes ago, I was able to activate it on one of my old family share plan lines(dumbphone). I didn't even turn the phone on. I took it out of the package and entered the MEID on Verizon's website. It forced the $30 2G data on the line, but I was able to use the Moto G without any problems! Boy, I forgot how slow Verizon 3G was.... I only did it to try it out.... will put the dumbphone back on that line tomorrow. I plan to use this $49 Moto G as a wifi-only device for going to the toilet only. (won't bother me if a $49 phone falls into the loo, instead of my Galaxy Note 3! )

Edit: see my post below(post #23) NOT ALL MOTO G PHONES CAN BE PUT ON POSTPAID ACCOUNT!

Did you dial in to the activation line when you first turned the phone on?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really like the little Moto G. Almost as much
as I like my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The Moto G has a more "premium feel"
than the Note 3. Not sure how that's even possible..

Anyway, I always use Otterbox Defender cases on all of my smartphones.
So I looked it up. The Defender case for the Moto G is $46. What the heck?
For $3.99 more, I can have another identical Moto G. With that in mind, I went
back to Best Buy and picked up another Moto G for $49.99 + tax. I figured it's
cheaper to just buy a 2nd one as a back-up.

UNFORTUNATELY, I was NOT able to activate the second Moto G on my
Verizon postpaid account. I do not know why, but the online device switching
page just wouldn't take it. The *228 trick also refused. The first Moto G that
I activated still works fine on my other line.

I wonder if Verizon simply messed up on a big batch of Moto G phones and
allowed them to slip through the crack?

When a company puts more effort into the software and hardware, be it the features, the hardware specs, and shape and size, you'll definitely notice a difference. It's weird. I kind of like the weight of the Moto G in my hand more than my Moto X, which is lighter.

I think teardowns point to the BOM being around $120. At a regular price of $99.99, Verizon has to be subsidizing some of the cost. The Boost Mobile CDMA variant has a regular price of $129.99, BTW.

Are you trying to swap the Moto Gs on the same line?

Sorry, I should have been more specific:

This morning, I bought Moto G #1. Logged into my Verizon postpaid family share account online and put it on line #3.(dumbphone line) It worked perfectly!

This evening, I bought Moto G #2. Logged into my Verizon postpaid family share account online and put it on line #2.(also dumbphone line) The system refused to take it and said to call customer service. When I tried the *228 trick, the recording informed that it was a prepaid phone.(duh!)

I thought about returning Moto G #2 and getting another one to try... but then again, I have no reason to put it on my postpaid account in the first place. (already have a Galaxy Note 3 and Note 2 on it) I only intended to use them as wifi only device to begin with. At $49 a pop, I can't think of a more perfect device for this purpose.
