Android Central Question

I'm trying to get my Galaxy A5 (Android 7.0) to sync to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5).

I installed Android File Transfer and followed the instructions on the support page for the software. I launch Android File Transfer on the MacBook then plug in the A5 and select "Transfer Files". the "Use USB to" window that has the radio buttons to select the various options stays open on the A5 (meaning the window to select the various options doesn't go away). clicking and Android File Transfer reports "No Android device found" or "Could not connect to device".

eventually the A5 goes to the "Attention the connected device is unable to access data on this device" window.

restarting the A5 and relaunching Android File Transfer results in same issues.
