He's not incorrect. True or Full HD refers only to 1080p. 720p is still HD, but it has not ever been identified as true/full HD.
I guess that's because there's no such official thing as "true/full HD." But if you guys want to make up your own terminology and then make up your own definition for it, go for it, I think most everyone here knows the truth now. Based on that though, most of you aren't really watching HDTV on your flat panels at home, because as has been pointed out, much/most HDTV broadcasts are in 720p format.

The poster who pointed out that on our displays its a ridiculous argument are ALSO correct. In general, 720p resolution is considered to be as good as the human eye can perceive up to about 20-25 inch HDTV's, so 1080p buys you nothing at those sizes. 1080p does look better to the human eye on 47,532 and 55 inch (and larger) displays, but on your phone (of any kind!) it doesn't matter. The S3 is HD, and will display HDTV streams without CPU-hogging interpolation. The iPhone 5 will not.

Both True HD and Full HD are marketing terms. They are not standards. One could just as easily come up with "Super HD" or "Turbo HD", tell everyone you mean 1080p, and there you go you have yet another meaningless phrase.

The standard was set by the FCC via the Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC). The standard specifies 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. 720p 1080i and 1080p are defined as being HD, while 480i / 480p are SD.

Due to bandwidth limitations, broadcasters generally use 720p or lower.

The standard is below. 720 and 1080 are both HD.

The real name for 1080p is SMPTE 274M

FHD is not a marketing term. That is where full HD comes from. The proper name of the 1080p resolution is FHD.
shady, it doesn't matter how many facts you quote, the naysayers will just continue to make up their own...

Yep, BSEE degree - too many years ago! Been in the industry for over 30 years, but looked at the $$$ a few years ago and moved from the pure technical side into technical sales.

Yeah, I mean Apple does have its points but when you look at it from an overall (features, speed, user experience, etc.) perspective, I really believe the Galaxy S3 does win, and I don't mean that to be biased in any way.

Features definitely. Speed is arguable as the difference is slight. User experience depends on which phone they prefer, it's personal preference. My experience on an S3 will be 100x better than if I used an i5 cause I prefer the Android OS and it's customization, etc and I can't stand using iOS personally. Doesn't mean it should be used against the i5 cause some people will feel the exact opposite of me.

Yeah ur right, I have no problem with iOS, but I just hated the limited customization it had and I did not like using iTunes...I am more satisfied with my GS3, but then again it really does come down to user preference

I like iTunes as a way to play music on my PC, that's it. I hated having to use it to do everything with my old iTouch. Never understood why I couldn't just drag and drop files.

actually that's weak comparison and didn't go over much compared to other sites. It also doesn't help that it has Samsung ads plastered all over it. My Apple fanboy friend that's trying to get me to move over to ios sent me this new review from anadtech AnandTech - The iPhone 5 Review actually has more benchmarks and data. I didn't need it since I already know the iphone 5 is a beast of a phone and can admit it, but even if I wanted to switch I'm stuck in a contract with the S3 and don't want to fork money over on another phone. I wish the US would had got the quad core phone instead of dual core.

Kinda odd considering the iPhone is so much more "user-friendly" right? :P

You know if you were willing to pony up a few bones I'm sure you could find plenty out there willing to trade you, S3 plus cash for an ip5.

Also WTF? CNET IS full of bias... They put out an early comparison and it showed the iphone 5 about 10 min short on talk time to the Droid razr maxx, I thought that sounded bogus. I mean for shear numbers and yes I know ios is a very efficient os, battery size is huge compared to the iphones.
