Google Plus wants to backup my photos again after reset

I have a Galaxy S4 which i had to reset per Vodafone instructions. The SD card has a lot of photos on it. I've set up Google Plus again, with auto backup over wifi only. It now shows a backup queue of 1400 photos. i am worried it will back these up to Google again, breaching my Google Drive limit and forcing me to delete all the duplicates from Google. Does anyone know how to get the backup function to ignore the old photos which are already backed up?

I've noticed the same thing when I upgraded from the GS4 to the GS5.
I didn't do anything that night left it that way.
The next day I checked and only 3 new pictures taken with my GS5 were uploaded, apparently, Google recognized the duplicates and didn't upload them, YMMV.

Great. I'll try that if nobody else has a horror story to share.
