Earbud controls not working

Hello everybody.

I have been using samsung earbuds with my S5 w/o problems and this morning suddenly the controls do not work. I can use them normally except that I can not control volume with them.

I tried them with my Tab 3 and the controls work perfectly.

Could I have disconnected something in the S5 so as to disconnect the controls? Does anybody know if such controls even exist?
