new to android - how do i get my text messages read to me, through the bluetooth in my car? do i need to get an app? is there a setting in the phone that i am missing?

Like windows phone or the moto x on drive assist mode?. I would also like to know if anybody has an easy way to do this. I know it could be done with Tasker but it may require root access.

One guaranteed way is to upgrade to an Android Auto compatible head unit.

It would have to be a supported feature on the Bluetooth device you are paired with. I have a Toyota Entune unit and it reads the texts out to me but my wife's does not even though she has Entune as well. Her's is just a different model without that feature, it will let her know she has a text though.
