Worse battery performance now that have sim card...but I'm not using the phone!

So I was getting through a whole day only being down to about 60%...but I hadn't gotten a new sim card yet....now that I put the sim card in, for some reason it's MUCH worse - as in it's only 4:00 and I'm down to 60% with another 6-7 hours to go in the day. I'm not actually making any calls...what's changed? Any ideas?

switch to a better carrier.
