T-Mobile phones are usually locked until paid off.

I don't have one yet and mine will be Verizon (which are unlocked right away) buy normally T-Mobile ones are always locked until paid off since they don't want someone to use it elsewhere.

My guess is it is referencing the hardware which is the same across all USA carriers. Only difference is software.

Looked at it more. Mines a G955U though.

I just downloaded the April software and it boot up in blue when updating but it started up with tmobile logo and apps

This time I believe there is only one model for all US carriers SM-G955U
