How can I recover corrupt jpg files?

I have a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and just a cheap no-name SD card. Usually my photos automatically back up to Google Photos but, being on holiday, I had my phone in Airplane Mode, assuming it would back up when I got to my home. When I got back I looked on Google Photos to find instances saying they couldn't upload because of file size or unrecognisable file type. I found the files on my SD card, but they are not recognised by any image viewer. I think there was an error writing to the SD card. I tried a couple of recovery apps (Stellar Phoenix & Cisdem) but neither worked
