-1 Count on Stock E-mail Lockscreen Shortcut

My husband loves his Galaxy Note but the e-mail counter keeps showing a -1 when he has no unread messages. The counter is always one less than what's actually in his e-mail. Cleared app data and cache but keeps reappearing.

Any ideas on how to correct? Does this happen to anyone else?

My guess just a bug in the ROM. I would send this screenshot to Samsung as a bug report.
