$100 for 64gb of storage is robbery

Guys -- be adults. Let's stick to the topic and not each other. Either have a civil discussion or simply ignore the thread -- it isn't that hard to do.

It's called economic demand. Mutiple already posted they ordered the 128gb version in the sticky so obviously the price is okay for some people. Aka Not Robbery.

Did anyone who thinks the extra $100 might be to make up for higher manufacturing costs. I mean the pixel 3 already sees an dramatic increase in cost. There is a strong chance the extra $100 might mean that the higher capacity option is basically subsidizing the lost margin in the 64GB version.

Not that us as consumers should care. Just saying that it makes the 64GB a better value not because google is charging a lot more for more storage but because it implies that the phone is closer to cost (though obviously still very very far away from it) than the 128GB version.

Another thing worth pointing out is that Sadly Google happens to release the phone near the same time period as Apple. Apple nearly drains the market of good nand prior to release of new phones. Most of the other companies are on different release schedule. Again not something we should have to worry about, but Google might be paying considerably more for good nand than Apple and the rest by having to buy it the same time as Apple is.

While I don't necessarily agree with OP's approach to this topic, I think there's a valid point when just considering the storage pricing. $50 for an additional 64GB of storage would be inline with the overall market and as a consumer, it makes sense to take something like that into consideration with this type of purchase.

I don't think the terms "robbery" or "gouge" are appropriate, but Google appears to be pricing on device storage above market. Perhaps since they may want to press more cloud storage services? I mean, they already give away storage with the Photos app. Maybe they want people to use that more. Who knows?

We are here debating the value of 64GB of storage when some of us will drink $100 of craft beer in a couple of weeks. Where's my Festbier?! :D

If you think that is outrageous, Microsoft charges $300 per 128gb on their new Surface Pro 6. Now that is robbery; and they don't even wear a mask.

Internal storage has always been overpriced especially Apple with prior models. Nowadays Apple charges 150 to jump from 64 but at least you get a bigger jump to 256 then 200 more to jump to 512.
Honestly I think all memory upgrades are overpriced.

If it's a real issue the market will fix itself.

Agreed. If it's truly market imbalance, it will definitely correct itself.

I don't know if this is the case hundred percent speculation but what if they're two different types of storage?

I'll 100% speculate right along with you. I think considering the partitions between Google Drive and Photos can be toggled on and off to user suit user preference, suggests to me that the two services are at least "cousins" in some way. Say versus another service like Keep Notes that's a bit more separated.
