11/21/2011: VZW Nexus (Unconfirmed)

From everything I read on that link, I am thinking that Monday is looking a lot better right now.

Why does there have to be a press release?

I can't recall a high profile phone (or heck, any phone...see the Casio flip phone that was released this past Thursday) being released without Verizon announcing it's availability of sale. Even the Droid 3 got it's own press release announcing a date for direct fulfillment, pricing, and store availability.

My opinion...this isn't going to be released without a peep from Verizon. I just don't see that happening.

I agree that it would be very odd to skip the announcement part and just start selling them in the stores one day, but it wouldn't shock me if they did it. They might think that it would preserve the marketing push they have going on the Razr.

Someone mentioned a silent release of the Droid 2 Global.

Droid 3 wasn't announced until after it went up for preorder.

Wouldn't surprise me with what all are talking about - pushing the RAZR...must have seen that commercial with the guy and the suitcase 30 times last night watching the Jets lose...

Verizon's first priority is making money, so I'm going to say the 28th. I hate their guts for it, but I understand why they do it.

Well, I just ran over to my corporate Verizon store (it's just 5 minutes from my house) and there is no secret release of the phone today.

They make money off of plans and do not care what phone you have as long as it is with them. I don't understand why this is so hard for people to understand. A smart phone is a smart phone to them and they are making an extra $30+ just off data plans per month. But verizon would never release a phone so close to another. I mean they didn't release the rezound 3 days after the razr or anything. :-X

No news yet today. I've got a feeling I won't hear anything until after 2. And these releases this month have been really unique because Verizon actually has 3 phones that directly line up against one another. I'm a little biased on which one I think should be focused on, though.

I think they care at least a little what phone you buy. I'm sure the numbers show that for every 100 subscribers, a certain number of the less informed saps will find, activate and use VZNavigator and add an extra $10 per month to their bill. At the end of every month, it's probably a pretty significant amount of money.

I don't know anyone with a smartphone that uses vz navigator. I saw people with feature phones using it but most with a smart phone use google maps since it works better. Not to mention they could still install it through the market if they wanted to use vzw navigator. Not to mention both the razr and rezound come with google maps preloaded anyway.

I have to back you up on this. Back in the earlier days of Android (I'm talking Eclair, Donut, etc) Verizon decided to differentiate their Android devices by launching the "Droid" line of phones. While bloatware is small potatoes when compared to the meat of their revenue in 2 year contracts, they have a stronger relationship with Motorola, seeing as how they provide most of their Droid devices and allow all the bloat and locking down you can ever wish for.
This is why their major marketing bucks go into Droid brand phones. They're exclusive, they attract the less informed, and they're the bulk of Verizon's smartphone sales.
It's foolish to say Verizon doesn't care, as long as you tie into a contract, but they do care at least in a small financial sense.
