16 or 32GB phone? please help!!

I went for the 32gb for the same reasons listed above. My biggest complaint about my EVO was its incredibly small internal storage. I would get a notification every couple of weeks telling me I was running out of space on the phone, and the only way to get it to go away was to uninstall apps and or clear the cach of face book or the web browser. It got old after a while and it didn't matter how big my SD card was because I had moved all the apps that could be moved. I was going to look at the new EVO LTE, but when I discovered it only allowed 2gb for apps when it had 16 gb of internal storage I knew the same problem would arise at some point. Plus the extra $50 is not a big deal when you get double the storage.

I called Sprint and they stated that on there Samsung galaxy s3 phones you can only use up to 32gb on the sd card, can't use 64gb memory card.

I think that's the max according to the spec sheet but from what I've read everybody who has put a 64 gb card into the phone has had good luck with it working.

Yep that is what they say. They also said the same thing for previous generation phones even though the 64GB still worked. Just because that is what they say doesn't mean it is true. There are in fact a number of people that have a 64GB card installed and are using it successfully. I think that part of the reason that they say up 32GB is because 64GB cards are by default formatted to exFat format instead of Fat32. So out of the package a 64GB may not work until you re-format it. Part of it may also be trademark. 64GB implies SDXC where 32GB is the max for SDHC. They may not have wanted to pay to use the SDXC trademark. Just guessing there.

Regardless of what Sprint says and what Samsung's documentation says, most 64GB SDXC cards will work just fine.

Thank you so much for this info and I will go ahead and get a 64gb card. Can you tell me if it is hard to reformat a 64gb card? I am a female and don't understand any of that. Thanks for any advice:)

I originally felt, like several others here, that if the 32gb is only $50 more than the 16gb, that's an easy choice - take the one with double the storage space. But when I realized other places (like Radio Shack and Amazon) have the 16gb for $149 and maybe even no tax, that makes the price difference much greater. Apparently ONLY Sprint Stores have the 32gb and in my area they don't even have it in stock - they need to ship it to the store for me to pick up.

Considering all of that, I'm going with the 16gb and will hope that plus whatever the max external storage amount that I can add is going to be enough. I have never used an Android phone before and have no idea what kind of space I'll need for apps etc but imagine that should be plenty...

No need to reformat to FAT32. I left my 64gb card exFAT format, transfered 3000+ pics and 300+ songs over to it and everything works perfect.

I did notice that in the sprint store. I installed Apps2SD and they guy told me there was an 8gb sd card in it. When I ran the app, it did not have the option to move anything to the sd card. I was baffled (the sprint sales guy was a moron, and no help). Does Android 4.0 not let you move to the SD card? Or does it automatically move over apps to the "non-ram" internal memory? Does anyone know? I am on the fence as well.

I went 32g because the built in storage is much faster than sd card storage. The phone will certainly be resold at some point and most of the $50 cost will be recaptured

when you stick it in the phone it will ask you to format it. If not go to settings, storage, unmount external sd card, then click format sd card. if this helps hit thanks

Every SD card thst I have seen comes formatted and ready yo use. No need to format a new SD card.

My understanding with all ICS phones is that the apps cant be stored to SD card. So unless I have it wrong, ALL apps will be stored within the built in 16 or 32gb and the SD will be for pics, music, texts, & such, but no apps.

I can't fathom why someone would buy the 32gb unit. Not when there is expandable storage with the microSD. That's like buying the largest cup available when they all have refills.

Your reasoning certainly isn't unsound.

I have always considered it this way:

In order to stream music or access dropbox (or Drive, or whatever), you have to have a connection. I go many places where I do not have data signal or available wifi. There are many examples of this.

Therefore, it behooves me to have as much as I can locally for access. For me, this is music, pictures, videos, books, PDFs, documents, etc.

Lastly, even if we have a reliable connection, it isn't without debate that Sprint will always have unlimited data. (And lets face it -- their data speeds suck.)

It's just greedy and stupid, IMO.

Greedy and stupid? No, IMHO, going low is penny wise and pound foolish.

Kevin, When did you get your gs3? And do you love it?

Apps can not be moved to SD on the GS3. I tried both apps and neither work. Maybe if rooted but without root it cant be done.

I already said in earlier posts that only certain apps can be moved without root and all of them with root
