2.1 Lite!!! Option 4

I flashed Option 4 today. Went great took all of 5 minutes to reboot!
I think I need to do apps2sd but don't have a clue on how to back up the sd card. I assume partitioning means it gets wiped in the process?
Looked at a few threads but makes no sense to me.

Yeah, you're right, it wipes everything off of it.
Just mount the card to a computer and copy/paste into a folder. You can just copy paste back to the card after partitioning.
Apps need to run off of an EXT partition, everything else gets stored into a FAT32 partition. The longest part of the process is backing up and restoring.

Thanks! I'll give it a go hopefully tonight.
Does this automatically set partition sizes or do I have to do that? If I do, what sizes? I just have the 2gb card.

It doens't automatically do it, I have an 8GB card, so I went wild with 500mb. Obviously, that wouldn't be prudent for you. Stock is 159mb free, You could just do that, or maybe 256 or something along those lines. Its a little misleading as not everything gets saved to the SD card, it still takes up space internally, but less than it normally would (Apps2SD 2.5 saves a buttload more).

I'd like to start by thanking you beezy for your awesome work and support! putting all of this together for us Hero users is incredible. rooted/flashed 2.1 option 4 lastnight as well as some of you add on's. and loving it!

I do have one question to ask of you. I cannot seem to get any of the WiFi tether apps to work. Could this be an issue with the kernel? Have you been able to work this out for yourself? if so i could use some help.

**Edit**

Ok, never mind i uninstalled then reinstalled the apk for the android wifi tether app from google code. have it working but for some reason cannot get any more than 0.3 kbps DOWN and 6.5 kbps UP with a good 3g signal... any ideas there??

Thank you but it wouldn't of even been possible without gbhil. He has a lot of helpful info for US all to read and learn from.Have you tried using v1.6 of wireless tether http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/9535-add-ons-fixes-sprint-2-1-hero-leak.html
That one works great for me.I perfer wired tether doesn't make phone as hot.:D

I installed option 4 Sat. Everything has been working great til this morning. My clock widget is gone and so is my Calender and phone favorites widget. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Do I need to do a reset??

Beezy, to you and Gbhil...thank you. With the guide here and a little hand holding from a friend, I finally got my Hero rooted last night and it's cooking!

Basically I'm running your 2.1 opt 4, with Expresso and the Newlivewallpapers and clockfix app. Everything is smooth sailing, even my market works. Except for 2 things, and I'm curious if they are fixable (my apologies if I've missed a fix elsewhere).

1. Data network seems a bit intermittent. I'm in a strange area, right on the edge of 3g coverage. Before, I could choose EVDO only and get about 700k up/down no issue. Rare I switched though because I couldn't receive voice calls or send/receive SMS. Otherwise by leaving my phone on hybrid, 99% of the time I'd run on the 1X network and have no issues connecting, just slow as expected. Now, I'm on 1X network as always, but it only wants to connect about...60% of the time it seems. Primary issue is Google Nav there, while driving.

2. The sound is intermittent as well. I haven't tried podcasts yet, but in the default music player (would it help to reinstall MixZing? Was trying to keep clean for now) it seems to occasionally drop the audio. Not running on headphones, just on the speaker.

Thanks for any help - amazing work.

EDIT: One other small issue I've come across is a kind of choppy connection by USB. Once I choose "charge only" etc., it seems to forget and re-prompt me sometimes, when I open/close a program, or perhaps on wake, etc.

Hey beezy. Ive been using the fresh 2.0d ROM for a couple days & aside from the full theme customization that fresh has i lyke your better. I think yours is more stable for me, & much lighter. Can you possibly include wireless tether for root users in your rom? And when ever setcpu & the 2.1 lockscreen are available It wud be pretty much perfect :D

Im still have asleep,do you have audio drop using just the stock music app?Data network im not to sure about i haven't had any signal problems,i know that doesn't help you.lol..The usb connection does that to me alot when plugged into my desk top but not that much when i plug into laptop, ill look into it.;)

Yes, when using the stock music app. My phone has rebooted twice randomly today too..hmm.

Haven't matched the issue yet with Listen on podcasts though.

I am plugged into a USB 1.0 port on my crappy PC, will try it on my other with 2.0, see if that makes a difference. Would make sense.

Data network, meh, I'm retarded maybe. Just found in the settings that it wasn't set for always on. Changed, we'll see how that works.

Thanks for the quick reply, btw. Get some coffee.

They need to make Coffee Dew.

No audio loss except in standard music player so far. And no, not on a notification or anything, that I noticed. Perhaps it was just adapting...like a cylon...it is an Android. I'm playing a playlist again now, let's see what happens. OK, it just skipped, midsong, to the beginning of the next. I might just install Mixzing if it keeps happening, I like it anyway.

4 reboots in 2 days so far, and I only have about 20 apps. And yes, LWP and the clockfix installed.

OK, it just stopped halfway through the song, and the pause button on the stock player just turned to a play button. Upon hitting play it started the same track over.

Interesting, now upon the screen going off, it stopped the music. Then I hit play, it started same song over, and when the screen went off it kept going.

I like the stock player for the lock screen controls...rrr.......ok..now it stopped playing again lol. The play-by-play in about 4 min of writing this post :-)

If I want to remove stuff like facebook, flicker, peep, twitter..
How do I go about that?
I have no need for the social media stuff.

i agree with dave about the social media. granted, i am making efforts to purchase a larger SD card and use the apps2sd but space is space as far as i'm concerned. i don't often use the music player (never, in fact) so i'm no judge for music player functionality.

additionally, i have been having some weird screen bugginess when switching from google maps navigation back home, other apps, etc... the notification bar appears to stay in landscape, the touchscreen stops working, etc...

this build is phenomenal beezy and you deserve all the thanks each of us have to offer!!
