Any one catch anything concrete on a 2.2 release? Also dodd it pi$$ anyone else off that the droid 2 its shopping with 2.2 and they can't release an ota for a superior phone that deserves that release. Why update a phone that can release live off its hype then add to it with froyo coming??? The x deserves it before the droid 2 IMO

Sent from my DX using my fingers.

I'd say it deserves 2.2 at the same time as the Droid 2.

When you start to look at the two devices hardware wise it becomes even more apparent as the two devices are blatantly identical (save for the fact that the D2 has a physical keyboard, obviously) and so since they're running the same OS and same software UI skin, it only makes sense for the X to get it at release or actually before, as they don't manufacture these devices on August 11th and have THOSE devices made on the 11th in store on the 12th, it takes a few weeks of manufacturing and shipping distribution to get them in stores. That means that a release-ready version of 2.2 running this ghetto Blur that the X has has been ready for at least a couple weeks now.

Pretty pissed off myself that we are waiting till September...

Well, we'll see how well everything runs on the Droid 2 in a few days. That includes Flash, which seems to be the culprit of must of the 2.2 problems and delays.

Well let's be fair; of course WE want the X to get Froyo asap, but it isn't competing against another Moto phone. The D2 is the replacement for the OG Droid and anyone else who wants a slideout keyboard on VZ, and it needs to have the features to sell it as such (/cough crippled OG hotspot). The X sold really well already, and will continue to do so. They can afford to take the time and roll a bunch of bug fixes into it that end users may attribute to 2.2 rather than Moto failing in the original release, so of course they'll take the time to do so. Droid 2, otoh, will probably see a fairly substantial OTA bug fix patch, I'd imagine around the time that the R2...D2 launches in September.

Where yes the X deserves 2.2 for Verizon and Moto to both release a new phone and do a software update at the sametime would not be a good idea. They are doing the right thing and getting the phone out and then doing the software update a few weeks later. We know it is on its way.

At this point I dont believe anyone about when 2.2 will come out , lol :p. I will when I see "update available". I think the Dinc should get it before the DX or D2 actually too . Thats what was said as well . Well we we see "time will tell" the tale as my granddad would say

not sweating over D2 getting 2.2 first, I got the dx for the other features knowing froyo would eventually come.

This is really nothing new. It's been known for months that the D2 would be the launch device for FroYo, and that the DX would get FroYo by "Late Summer". Well, in the technical sense of the word, we currently just passed mid-summer (if you take June 21 to Sept. 21 as summer, then the mid-point was Aug. 5. They have plenty of time to deliver on their promise.

With D1 updates going out today, and the D2 coming out tomorrow, I imagine we'll see DInc updates in the next week or so, and then DX updates in late Aug/Early Sept.

In the scheme of things, that wouldn't be too bad.

The DROID 2 was built on 2.2. The DROID X was built on 2.1. Simple as that.

The Froyo Source Code was released on June 23. Not enough time to get it ready for a phone that was released about 3 weeks later on July 15th. But it was enough time to get it ready for a phone to launch on August 12th.

Be patient people. Most Droid X users aren't even going to see a difference. The Froyo update has been elevated to a status that alot of people are going to be disappointed.

We're going to see a lot of posts along the lines of "My Droid X doesn't look any different after the 2.2 update. Motorola/VZW suck. It didn't do anything on my phone."

I would expect it to come to Droid X users in early September.

Not at all. Source code dropped on the 23 of June. I would imagine all of the big Moto Androids will have Froyo by Sept. 23. That's 3 months to get Froyo on 3 phones, new release for one of them. Major update for the Droid X shortly after launch. Froyo update for Droid, halted, fixed and re-updated.

I say Moto is pretty on top of their game. They are working hard to support their Android users, well most of them, and are doing a good job with it.

Well that's wrong statement if u noticed the X was built with 2.2 inmind. Look at the features we have that are 2.2 specific. I'm in no way in a rush for 2.2 lets fix the bugs first.

I don't disagree. The Droid X was built with 2.2 in mind. They knew it would be getting 2.2 shortly after launch, but, it still released with 2.1 so that's what it was built on.

Instead of releasing a bug fix update like we got awhile ago, they will roll those fixes into the 2.2 update. Exchange email for example. They know the problem is there, they may already have a fix for it, but it will be in the 2.2 update.

I'm sure they had 2.2 in mind, just like they have 3.0 (or whatever number it ends up being) in mind. But 2.1 has been out longer and they started making the X way before 2.2 was released. So they optimized 2.1 for the original release and are now optimizing and finalizing 2.2. You wouldn't want them to release a buggy and rushed X with 2.2 just to get it out for the July release date.

The voice of reason. I hate to say this and please don't flame me, but most of you folks sound just like all of us BB users when the Storm 1/ Storm 2 came out and we were waiting on updates and loading leaked software. One can tell that most of you are very young and have never worked in the software/hardware industry. It simply takes time to get through all the testing and QA. The worst thing they could do with Froyo is to release it and it fall flat on it's face! I'd rather be patient and get better quality. I know, I've had a new release brick my phone more than once! ;)

I think Motorola has already finished with 2.2 on the X. The D2 has the same software as the X and already comes with 2.2 out of the box. My guess for the delay is that they want to get more sales for the D2.

This xInfinite.

I am highly skeptical that they will be "rolling bug fixes into 2.2."

This is a business people. Money comes first, not making your customers happy and content.

The flip side is they could have released the Droid 2 before the Droid X, and we would all be sitting here telling Motorola/Verizon to release it already. My guess is that there are different groups, within Motorola, that are managed by different product managers and developed by different Engineers. Personally I'm glad I got the Droid X early rather than later.

droid x should have shipped with 2.2 or have beena fast ota. They had a huge launch press conference for the x with all the players there and I think the x is a more popular phone anyway

This cracks me up. Seriously who cares? I have an X coming at the end of the month and I don't care if it's 2.1 or 2.2, it's crazy fast and better looking than my Eris ever could be. Relax guys, you'll get it. That said HTC and VZW left the Eris on 1.5 for what seemed like an eternity.
