2.2 update failing. Anyone else?

I've been unsuccessful in updating to 2.2 on my non-rooted Fascinate. Yesterday I did a hard reset and I still got the dreaded "UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE, reason: IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED"

Last night I went to the Verizon store, and they insisted that I had to wait for the update to be pushed to my phone for it to be successful. I pointed out to them that many forum users have successfully updated without the push, but they stuck to their story. So I asked for them to put that in writing, and you can guess what their response was. Exactly.
They bumped me to "tier 2" support, and then to Samsung support, who left me on hold for 38 minutes before I had to bail, as the store was now closed. Oy!

So now I have a factory reset phone without 2.2 and I am not happy. You all know the pain it is to re-customize your phone. If anyone has a suggestion/solution, great. But even if not, it is very therapeutic to share my frustration, knowing many of you will sympathize.

I very much sympathize. They had to send me a new phone and the update worked on that one. But, Programs and appointments lost. (Yes I backed up apps, media and data to the SD card before the update.) Appbrain lost track of some of my paid apps. I have yet to test whether the speaker jacks on the desk cradle and car dock are enabled. Google widget now brings up Bing. (Dammit!) so got to find a solution for that. I have never rooted / flashed custom rom, but honestly it could not be any more trouble than this OTA has been. I think next phone will be HTC. I am going to start following Thunderbolt forums just to get a feel for how that is going.

that blows. The only non-root solution seems to be a phone replacement. That's what I had to do. If it were me, I would get on the phone with VZW, insist on a new one, escalate as necessary and have them send it to you.

p.s. Going forward, if you use Launcher Pro, you can backup all of your home screens and LP settings (less the widgets). I know this doesn't help now, but it saved me some time on my new one. Still had to set the Touchwiz one up (I like that too actually), but the LP one only took 2 minutes

Mine gives me the InnoPath ActiveCare message:

SERVER UNAVAILABLE
Check for Software Update when server is available

Anyone know how to get this working?

You will have to keep trying. Sometimes that just means the server is unavailable at that time. Also pull down your notification bar and make sure wifi is turned off and you have data on (second one from the right.) If you still can't get it you may be one of the 10,000 or so that verizon is aware will not be able to get the update. If that is the case you will have to contact verizon and they will send you a refurbished replacement phone.

I don't have a data icon in my pulldown bar.

I only have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Airplane.

Maybe I'm not on the stock version? I followed the guide to flash back to stock in this forum.

Data in the notification bar is only available in froyo, anything before that only had airplane mode

When I go to Settings->About->system updates -> check new

all it does it say "please wait" for about 1 second, and then comes back to the System Updates screen.

I have a totally stock phone.

Hardware: i500.04
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband: s:i500.04 V.EA28
Kernel: 2.6.29

Does this just mean there is a problem connecting to the server, or is it something different? I'm located in NYC.

Update: this never changed. so i finally got around to backing up my fascinate and then I did a factory reset. about 2 minutes after activating it and everything coming online, the Froyo update was pushed to my phone.
its kind of funny. i've been using LP pretty much since I got the phone in September. I forgot what the Sammy launcher looked like. Now I know why I was so quick to switch!

My Froyo Update Failed

Screen reads:UPDATE FAILED OR INCOMPLETE. reason:
IP_START_UPDATE

3 buttons on the bottom of screen:
Info OK Cancel

Clicking OK just acknowledges the message. Nothing happens thereafter. How do I complete the update?

Ok, it's allowing me to re-download. I'll try again and see if the installation follows the completed download. Last time it just indicated that the download was completed but never advanced to the installation.
