22 percent of Android users willing to dump their handset for iPhone 5

So iPhone 5 was just released and this thing looks ugly! Who decided to put metal and glass on the back in a design pattern like this? Apple apparently didn't realize that the aluminum on the back will scratch even worse than the old glass! Other than that what's new? It doesn't have NFC, or a quad core processor! So what's all the hype about? It's basically the same thing as my Droid Razr but with an Apple logo on it!

I must say though that the lack of NFC is extremely disappointing in the sense that it have it on a Snapple product would have likely increased its potential to be universally embraced much sooner.

With regards to everything else: har dee har..what a disappointing introduction this must be. Looks like the biggest thread Google & Co. will face from Cupertino will be in the courtroom.

I'll give you NFC. But lol "it doesn't have a quad-core processor"? Hahaha.

Quad core can be had if you're willing to order an international variant and put it on ATT. You also have to remember that the iP5 will be Apple's top device for anywhere from 8-12 months and within the next year Quad core will become the normal and Apple won't have it!

And? As long as the user experience is good, dual-core vs quad-core is irrelevant.

Spec wars. lol.

It may not seem relevant now but within the next few months with the new devices being announced and quad core becoming the norm, app developers will design their apps to take advantage of it and to get the best experience you will need to have a device that actually has a quad core processor. Also, I'm sure tegra games would run much better on their designed 4 cores instead of being crammed into 2.

Our IT managers watched the release, they were not impressed with the new phone, we are slowly switching over from blackberry (they really suck now that Nextel is turning off towers) and the phones are bad as well, we will have to see if the 5 makes it to the "To Get" list or if we will get the 4's. Nothing much in the 5 caught their interest.

You don't understand the difference. iPhone doesn't need quad core. It can run incredibly well if not better than most quad cores. Specs aren't everything. It's how efficiently the os and hardware run.

Very true, and as of right now, there are very few, if any, apps that are designed to stress the cores. so you really can take the cores of the equation.

Which phones in the US are running quad-cores again? Oh wait. That's right. 2012 is the year of the dual-core Snapgragon S4. The next few months won't change that.

Tegra isn't the only game in town.

Yep my iPhone 4 was the smoothest phone I've owned. And I've had unlocked nexus running jellybean, note, razr , s2, evo 3d, epic 4g, Droid x, and og Droid.

I would wait until the next iteration of Android to decide what device is the smoothest running. Jelly Bean was just the start with project butter and there is definetly a long way to go but Google is making great strides towards fully enhancing the software for the devices like iOS.

Useless survey. How many iPhone users were planning on dumping it for Android. I know 2 people who are tired of the iPhone and planning to switch to Android. I don't know any that are planning on going to the iPhone.

Agreed. Especially when there's not information indicating the data or what it is based on and how it was analyzed. Cute numbers are always believable to the consumer masses.

O I know I'm not dumping android. I think with ics and project butter android is starting to come closer to ease of use and just a good smooth operating system like iOS has had for years. IOS has it since the beginning android had innovation and thinking outside the box. Now android has both almost. I think with the next 1 to 2 major updates android will be on par with the smoothness and fluid ness of iOS. But most other categories Android surpasses them. (Minus the app market)

Same old phone, just bigger with a few flourishes here and there. Of course it runs fast it has nothing on its screens but icons. Its running the android app drawer.

Ry, I really want to call you an Apple shill. For the last few days you have done nothing but defend them. Not one to call anyone out and get (more) infraction points, I did some digging thanks to your signature.

I can see from your storied history you are not a shill, just in the closet. You defend Apple and Moto pretty equally. I just don't get it.

Apple makes a good environment, they just released 2011's best phone (minus NFC), and are marketing guru's. That is about all they are.

Its ok if you want one, the first step is admitting you do....

I'll defend wherever I think incorrect statements are being made. Apple's just the hot topic right now.

So am in the closet about Apple or Motorola? Or both? lol.

No matter what anyone says about Apple, they'll still be swimming in a Scrooge McDuck pile of cash while guys not named Samsung struggle to survive.

Any Android OEM would kill for the following Apple has.

You are right about that last statement, but Android as a whole is getting there, with Samsung in the lead, for better or worse.

I put an AND in between Moto and Apple on purpose.

You are right, as stated elsewhere, they could take a pile of crap and slap a logo on it and make a ton of cash, but it is still a pile of crap at the end of the day. Todays announcement, sales aside, was very weak. i would say that this was the the same as Androids GB announcement, but with more fanfare.

Never will the iSheep term be more aptly applied than on the 19th IF you are "upgrading" from the 4GS to the 5.

Actually it is an insult to the word upgrade. If they are buying new, then more power and education to them. I will say that I am going to test my theory about Verizon. I have a corporate store nearby. I am going to head in on the 19th for a new phone.

I wonder which way they will push? Do you think the 5 or the superior SGS3?

Most could have it if they learned how to market. Samsung sure did..
