22 percent of Android users willing to dump their handset for iPhone 5

Most could have it if they learned how to market. Samsung sure did..

Most probably don't have to the budget to properly market their products.

You are right about that last statement, but Android as a whole is getting there, with Samsung in the lead, for better or worse.

Samsung is getting there. Android isn't, IMO. Samsung wants to build loyalty to their brand, not to Google's Android.

Highly unlikely, but in all honestly it wouldn't surprise me to see Samsung fork Android the same way Amazon has.

I will say that I am going to test my theory about Verizon. I have a corporate store nearby. I am going to head in on the 19th for a new phone.

I wonder which way they will push? Do you think the 5 or the superior SGS3?

Well, there are reports of reps pushing people to Android because the subsidy is supposedly cheaper than Apple's.

A good rep will steer you to what's best for you.

Where is Android lacking VS Apple outside of marketing?
Samsung will NOT fork off. They just won't IF they were the only one to do it. If one or two of the Chinese manufacturers did it to differentiate themselves in the market, maybe Sammy would consider it. They are too far up Googles butt right now, and they get to hedge their bets by making a ton of the iPhone components.Every company wants to build loyalty to their own brand, not the product.

A good rep is one thing, 90% (seriously) of Verizon reps fail at that distinction.

- Terrible low-end devices diluting the good experiences others may have, I'd take a 3GS over a Motorola Charm anyday.

- Customer service (more of a Google issue than an Android issue)

- Still being a slave to carriers, even the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon ans Sprint get bloatware

- Fluidity of the OS- Jelly Bean and Project Butter helps, but kind of irrelevant right now based on how many Jelly Bean devices are actually out there.

I want to throw in marketing but you wanted to exclude the. One quick note though, people still call their Android phones "DROID" phones even if they're not branded DROID devices.

Going in, you're already looking for them to fail. Do you really need to waste time to make an example out of them?

The low end devices are "loss leaders". It is actually a decent thing. Yes, they do suck, but once you get someone hooked on a 12$ Android phone, and show them a $50 Android phone 2 years later, are they going to go for the ecosystem they know or don't know?
In addition, it is a product of the environment. Android as you know is open source. Google does not control what goes on it, nor what it goes on. The point is the 20 year old college kids has an android phone that does what he wants. Would we as geeks buy a Charm? no, but we are a different animal.

Customer service, and I am not really sure where you are going with that but...
it is mostly carrier based. When I have an issue, I call Verizon. Not Google, HTC or Samsung.

You will not get an argument with me about carrier interference. I have long chided VZW for the crap they put us through. When I go to another carrier, I sure it will be the same.

Sorry, I would put my stock (which it isnt right now but would go back) SGSIII up against the i5 any day. I would even put my old ReZound up there if I could use a ROM. The gap in fluidity is just not there at this point.

It isn't about making an example, it is for my own curiosity. I would never belittle the guy/girl. I know a few in store reps, it is all about the contest that is going on at the time. Sell X about of Y and get $

Not me! I don't care for Apple products. Just wish Android would get a great tablet out.

Or that crappy $12 Android phone could make someone hate Android and go with someone else for the next phone.

Customer service- Apple and Microsoft have stores customers can go to to get help. Google's solution? Search for it.

Your right, but at the same time, they could blame the manufacturer and want a better, more established phone and since they know android....

The possibilities are endless.

I have never seen a Microsoft run store......EDIT: the nearest to me is almost 2 hours....I can dial *611 from my deck

EDIT2: nearest apple store is over an hour...had one 5 minutes away, but it went under

I would wait until the next iteration of Android to decide what device is the smoothest running. Jelly Bean was just the start with project butter and there is definetly a long way to go but Google is making great strides towards fully enhancing the software for the devices like iOS.

It's always the next one. No. That's unacceptable. Regardless of what you think of apple they don't just throw any willy nilly OS out there. They make sure that it's as close to perfection as you can get. Jelly bean is great, I have it on my nexus 7. But c'mon already and lets get that adoption rate up. When iOS 6 is released, you think only 2% of iOS users will have it? No siree.

That's one of the good things about the closed ecosystem and having only 1 iPhone. No wait for updates apps etc. No getting the newest phone then a month later and a new better phone is out. Its nice knowing ur phone will have all the updates and apps for its 2 year life

The example of buying a cheap android and not liking it is exactly what my experience was like with apple. I called tech support for my old ipod shuffle to get it reset only to be talked to like I was a 12 year old by some kid in his early 20's it sounded like. The issue was in order to have them reset that shuffle at that time was that it HAD to be registered with I believe 3 or 5 different pcs! A shuffle and a bad tech agent or intern turned me off to how strict and pretentious that company is. Kudos to them for a good phone and over priced laptops. Its not about the people not wanting to start "adopting apple", its not worth the money for a logo and a phone. And wheres the variety of different styles of phones? Same bland bleak look for years. IMO its a status symbol to most and thats not why I use a phone.

Blame the people you pay your monthly bill to. Blame the manufacturers for dumping their UI garbage on the phones as well. The Nexus line has proven that timely updates are possible. Everyone else in the equation blew it, not Google.

For me that's not a good thing. I've had 4 different Android phones in the last year. I like playing with new gadgets. I honestly don't know how most people can stick with 1 for 2 years. That's a phone eternity for me. In the general sense, I do agree that the phone should at least live out your contract with your chosen carrier but technology doesn't move at the pace of outdated carrier economics.

Apple TS is horrible. And to go to an Apple store and have to deal with "geniuses" is even worse. A well thrown hand grenade would solve that issue though.

The microsoft store, at least the one I went to in LA, is run like a low end store. When I went there, there were a lot of employees doing nothing, chatting with each other. There were more employees than customers probably 2:1. Yet, I walked in walked around and no one greeted me, asked if I needed anything. Then when I asked for help, they started to point fingers to decide who would help me. Their help is minimal at best. The problem with any of these stores is management. You can have a high end store but crap management, and with crap management, you get employees that don't give a damn. Although, I never went in there for tech support, so I can't comment on that aspect.

Theres one in a yuppie mall about 15 minutes from here. A windows store I mean. It was nice and run like any other store. Reminded me of a car dealership really.
The Apple store I think is still in the city here but I dont use their products and get gawked at because of a few tattoos when they see me walk in so I cant say for sure its still there

Hmmm.....apple got people hooked on a 600 dollar phone one the original lol. I am a iphone guy myself but i do that that is the biggest problem with the Android phones. The crap ones that companys keep makeing just turn people off. I have friends that have cheap android phones and they are real piece of craps. i have never used a S3 and i am sure its great but if i started with a cheap one i would have never made it to the 3S before i jumped ship. Thats where Apple has the advantage, you have never heared anyone jump ship from IOS because they purchased one of the cheap IOS devices. Ecause theres never been one lol.

Like they guy in the video said, all iPhone users are puppets:thumbup:
