4.3 Update for Sprint Galaxy S3 has Arrived

It doesn't work on sprint s3...we only can receive ota or do it thru external! I've tried. ..

You have to open Kies first, then plug in your phone, and follow the instructions.

I updated mine via CNexus' Odex 4.3 no-knox version ([STOCK ROM] Stock 4.3 MK3 ROM [ROOTED/UNROOTED] - xda-developers) using the latest CWM (install ROM Manager through Google Play to get latest version easy) to flash the following files:
- 4.3 Stock ROM Odexed,
- wifi fix,
- Knox-app-cleaner.

*EDIT* BTW...this was a dirty flash over the top of stock rooted MD4. I've had no negative residual effects.

At that point I wiped cache and dalvik, then installed the separate MK3 modem baseband. Wiped cache and dalvik once again and restarted the phone. Everything seems to work wonderfully. I then got the hotspot going by flashing that and it works great...even over LTE.

One of the small improvements I loved is that when you enable developer options and choose to keep the screen awake when plugged in...the setting persists even after reboot. FINALLY! I no longer require a stupid widget to flip that on when I plug my phone in while in the car. It's a very small, yet very effective and appreciated change.

Anyone having issues bringing up recent apps with the Home Button?

(I dirty flashed. I'm trying not to have to wipe data.)

Update: Issue resolved by flashing the ROM and 2 fixes again.

For those who haven't taken the OTA version with "Knox", Thunderstick at XDA has put together an "all in one" flashable version of CNexus' odexed, Rooted MK3 (4.3) ROM with all the fixes.

===> HERE <===

What it will do:
"-It will install the ODEX STOCK MK3 Rom with all the improvements CNexus busted his *** to bring to us.
(No KNOX, WIFI Fixed, Rotating Screen Working, Rooted, Additional Quick Settings, Hot Spot Fix)
-Will install the MK3 Baseband/MODEM/Radio...
-Will Format the System Partition before installing
-Will Delete Cache and Dalvik-Cache" <=== From ThunderStick's OP

Enjoy and hit his Thanks button...

Nice...however, some folks may not want to format their system and start fresh (although it's not a terrible idea). I edited my post to reflect the fact that I did a "dirty" flash and have had zero issues. My phone is quite snappy thus far (always is after dalvik and cache wipes) and have not seen any negative issues from upgrading over the top of MD4. If folks want to flash over the top, they can be confident that CNexus' flashes should not have a negative impact. If you have a ton of custom mods and other hacks in there, all bets are off of course.

Yeah I hear ya. I initially dirty flashed and had a couple minor issues. I just decided start from scratch and this thing is lightning fast now.

Has anyone figured out how to edit the lock screen option from showing notifications. I can't believe there's nowhere I can customize that for myself. What's the point of having a pin to lock and access your phone if your messages/missed calls and notifications will be displayed anyway. I thought there would be an option under Security to modify the lockscreen but there isn't. Anyone else experiencing this? I want to go back to the locksreen pre the update.

Feel the exact same way, also not feeling the new text message notification on the lock screen...

I just received the Sprint update it looks good but removed some of the games I had such as Plant vs. Zombies I was able to reinstall but it would not allow Deer Hunter: African Safari to work, will email the developer website. So far the only downside is the Samsung bloatware it came with in the update. Will keep posted if any problems develop.

I have md4 stock ROM which I installed and rooted using the steps in the 'how to root' thread by skunk ape. I have used Android Tuner to freeze a lot of bloat ware and also installed xposed framework to do a few mods. My questions are: what happens if I install the its 4.3 update Sprint is bugging me about (appeared this morning)? Will I get errors? Can I then re root from there? I did a Nandroid backup from CWM custom recovery but will the OTA remove that and therefore I can't restore the backup? Finally what's the best way to not have to start over and keep root when upgrading to 4.3? Thanks a bunch!

billard412,

I really like your mod and how my phone works now on 4.1.2. I just don't want to get a nag screen on OTA unless 4.3 is a need to have efficient update - so my question is, do you know where in build.prop if even that is the correct file to modify and what lines to modify to stop nag screens? Of course this is premature, as I have not even gotten the Sprint OTA push yet and do not know if I will get a nag screen after or if the Sprint OTA fails (if it fails, because maybe the OTA will be slightly different than XDA's version). I guess I will have to wait and see.

Crooked Rain,

Thank you for the error verbiage, as that might be correct on all the errors I received. I was also thinking of possibly going the same route as you and crossing my fingers that being rooted will not affect Google Play Movies and TV (old version 2.1.14), Google Wallet, and Hulu Plus with the side benefit of possibly not getting any Sprint OTA reminders to update.

I also happened to look into the feature.xml and I think this is where billard412's mod was done /system/csc/feature.xml and under <!--Camera--> section for this line <CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu> I am pretty sure that is the line that billard412's mod did - changing false to true.

Please keep me informed or post here on what you end up doing - as you seem to be stock un-rooted with billard412's mod and in similar situation as myself.

Thank you both!
You can Root, and just leave the Device as is. You do not have to Flash a Custom Rom. Rooting the Device should not affect the way your apps are set up. I use Google Wallet quite frequently with no issues. Also once you are Rooted you can use a File Explorer to just rename some files, and reboot. No need to Flash anything.

Using a File Explorer with Root permissions change all instances of MD4 to MK3.

I live in Maryland and my wife and I both have S3's. She has received her update roughly a week ago and I still have not received it. I thought it was done by region. Does anyone have any ideas how the rollout actilually works? Thanks

There is lots of speculation, and many people will claim to have the answer. Of course, all those claims will be different, so....

The real answer is that none of us really know.

The OTA won't install over a non-stock configuration. If you just want to get rid of the nag, see here: [ROM] [MOAR] [MD4] v6.0 / Modz For All / On the Fly Theming / Swagger ;) [11.02.13] - Page 1229 - xda-developers

If you want to update to 4.3 and remain rooted, your best bet is this: [STOCK ROM] Stock 4.3 MK3 ROM [ROOTED/UNROOTED] - xda-developers

or this: [ROM STOCK MK3 ROOTED] SPHL710 All In One Installer [ODEX/DEODEX] - xda-developers

Thanks Meyer. So I can just download and flash from my current recovery (it's team win, actually and can mount my external SD)?

I looked at both links and wondered which I should choose, not being all that android savvy? Thanks!

Yep, you can flash from TWRP. Might be a good idea to install the latest version, but Iguess you can try your current version and if it doesn't work get the latest.

Both links actually install the same ROM. The first is a multi-step process, and gives you the option to dirty flash. The second combines everything into one file, and does a full factory reset as part of the process.
