4.65" screen a joke? Or is it just me?

Definitely less space. It's a joke in my book as well. If I buy a 50" TV, I don't expect to see a search bar and buttons taking up part of the screen! :'(

Did anybody research the phone before they bought it? I'm pretty sure all of this was clearly stated in a lot, I'll repeat that, a lot of places. It would have buttons on the bottom of the screen and we all knew it would have a search bar at the top. Hopefully Google will change it but if you don't like it then download launcher pro or ADW ex.

Then we need to be upset it has a notification bar that takes up space... were digging here. If its not for you that all well. Glad they have a nice return window. I came from a x and I find this screen much better. Love no hard keys. Also just go into settings apps all and find the Google search and disable and its gone.

LOL... I dont see how expecting to get a 4.65 screen but only getting a 4.2373737 screen is being picky. :-*

Your right its not being picky it being stupid. If you still got the phone even after knowing about the buttons and search then you're an idiot for complaining about it. You can turn off the search bar. Hell for that matter do what your supposed to with a nexus and put something custom on it....

Beginning to wonder how many of these haters have even seen a nexus in person much less own one. They certainly don't understand what they are about.

You remove the search bar and you can't put anything in it's place.

Try out another launcher like launcher pro or adw. I haven't yet cause I enjoy the stock one but it could give you more what you want.

Use Nova Launcher. You can remove the search bar and put icons in that space.

What I think is a joke is how you get the same usable screen space on both devices, yet the Galaxy Nexus is a good half an inch taller than the ThunderBolt. Samsung should have made this phone a little smaller.

The useable screen is smaller than my DroidX with the buttons and stupid google bar on each page and that's no joke! Icons are icons but widgets need space and this phone takes it away from the previous generation of 4.3" phones. I may return it on the reason alone....I like widgets!

I put the Nexus right up against my Droid X and I can assure you there is less space between the google bar and soft buttons.

You do understand that the term "space" that you use has two different meanings, right?

You first say "...but widgets need space and this phone takes away from the previous generation...", but you do understand the difference between physical space and resolution, don't you? If you have a higher resolution display, like the Galaxy Nexus, you can fit more items on the display at any one time. That's why it takes less time to scroll a web page. Although I'm not sure how the OS handles this higher resolution in regards to homescreen rows (I haven't used an Android phone prior to the Nexus since I sold my Droid X in February), I can assure you that the "space" term that you use isn't necessarily indicative of a "smaller" display. Sure, the area might be smaller, but I can assure you that the number of pixels between the notifications bar and buttons is the same, if not more.

what do you guys with 4.3" screens think is gonna happen when your phone gets the ICS update...<4"

ICS 4 will be smart enough to use the hard buttons on those phones, so the screen will not take a hit.

I do like the soft buttons and picking up the little extra when watching video. Also tracking the menu button is not the big deal I thought it was going to be from the early reviewers.

What am I missing? Other than watching videos, this screen is hardly 4.65. After the space that the soft buttons at the bottom take up this is no larger than my 4.3 T-bolt. Web page viewing is the same, right>
No that is where this phone has an advantage, in the browser. The browser is fast, also if you go into full screen mode it is awesome. Sorry if this has been stated before.

I hope this thread is a joke! This is a NEXUS, don't like something, change it. Don't even need to be rooted to change this.

Can't believe the amount of complaining over small stuff like this...

It's a phone. It's an awesome phone. It happens to be the best phone I've ever used. It outclasses my tablet in performance.

The screen is beautiful. Blacks are black. Colors pop. Resolution is amazing. Text is crisp and clear even at small sizes.

And best of all, our phone is DIRECTLY supported in AOSP.

And some of you are complaining about the buttons?

Are you people serious?
